excellence in adult education

Start Time: 2:00pm
End Time: 3:30pm

Target Audience: Instructors that are currently teaching math concepts in an adult education classroom. This includes ESL instructors that incorporate numeracy into their classroom, ABE/ASE instructors teaching math, Bridge or ICAPS instructors that include math as part of their curriculum, and Instructors in the Correctional setting that teach math.

Description: Talking about numbers is an important part of communicating in a new language. Whether students are working, shopping, managing household finances, or supporting their children’s education, there is a need to understand and use numbers in order to participate in a new culture and advocate for oneself. Numeracy activities offer new opportunities for communicating what we see, what we are curious about, and what interests us.

In this workshop series, we will explore different ways of leading numeracy explorations with English Language Learners (ELLs):

March 12 - Part 1: Dot Talks and Number Talks, highlighting ways to help students develop their number sense and communicate mathematical ideas.
