End Time: 4:00pm

Core academic vocabulary such as eliminate, demonstrate, identify, and various, are words that are found in reading material starting at about a 5th grade level. These words are not specific to a content-area and are often abstract and difficult to learn.  This 2-part Institute will introduce a research-based approach to teaching core academic vocabulary. Participants will take a close look at strategies for engaging ABE/ASE and advanced ESL students in learning academic vocabulary in online or in-person classrooms. Between the two webinars, participants will try the strategies in their classroom. During the second webinar, the “Virtual Learning Community,” participants will share their experiences and learn about additional instructional techniques.
