3 Virtual Meetings, Assignments, iLEARN Coursework

The Reading Comprehension Virtual Learning Community (VLC) will focus on evidence-based strategies to build students’ background knowledge and maximize student outcomes on NRS standardized assessments, connecting to STEPS and GOALS blueprints. Participants will learn techniques for teaching students to identify main ideas and details, inference, drawing conclusions, author’s purpose, author’s point of view, and identifying supporting evidence–the skills assessed on STEPS, GOALS, and TABE.

Target audience: Instructors of students at ABE/ASE NRS levels 3-6 and ELA NRS levels 4-6.

Institute Schedule

The VLC will use a cohort model consisting of this sequence:

• iLEARN course

• 3 Virtual meetings:

  • Oct 24 - 2:00-4:00 pm

  • Nov 7 -  2:00-3:30 pm

  • Nov 21 - 2:00-3:30 pm

• Assignments between and following virtual meetings
