WinterTechnology Institute: Improved Learning with AI: Teaching Students to Use AI for Work and Academic Purposes
AI is everywhere–at school, on the job, and at home. While teachers are learning how to use AI as a tool for planning and delivering instruction, students need to learn how to harness the power of AI for college, careers, and daily life. This three-part EdTech Institute will examine how instructors can teach students to use a variety of AI tools in order to take control of their own learning–in school and out. Participants will learn how to teach students skills such as:
-
Identifying AI tools and prompts for different purposes
-
Using AI efficiently, responsibly and safely
-
Verifying the validity of info/AI outputs
In the Part 1 webshop, participants will discuss the purposes for which students might need or use AI, how to find specific tools, and the skills needed to use those tools.
For Part 2, participants will submit an independent assignment to plan, teach, and reflect on a lesson that provides instruction to students on how to use AI.
In the Part 3 webshop, participants reconvene to share and discuss their experiences with teaching AI skills. Additional strategies will be covered.
Part 1 Webshop: Saturday, January 25, 2025, 9:00 - 11:00 am
Part 2 Assignment to submit by February 14, 2025
Part 3 Webshop: Saturday, February 15, 2025, 9:00 - 11:00 am
A total of 5 hours of professional development will be provided to participants who complete all three parts of the institute.
